Federal EPA grants often get the most attention, but Colorado communities don’t have to wait for the next federal funding cycle to move a Brownfields project forward. Several resources are available to help assess properties, fund cleanup, and prepare sites for redevelopment.
Targeted Brownfields Assessments (TBA): Eligible communities can receive environmental assessment services at no cost, including Phase I and Phase II assessments, site characterization, and cleanup planning. EPA estimates that a typical TBA can provide $50,000 to $100,000 in environmental services.
Voluntary Cleanup and Redevelopment Program (VCUP): Property owners can work with CDPHE to address contamination and establish a clear path toward cleanup and redevelopment.
Colorado Brownfields Revolving Loan Fund: Eligible projects can access low-cost financing with reduced interest rates and flexible terms to help pay for cleanup.
1306 Brownfields Cleanup Grants: Colorado provides direct cleanup assistance to eligible local governments, nonprofits, and other organizations working to return contaminated properties to productive use.
These resources can work together. An assessment today can help define cleanup needs, identify funding options, and position a community for future EPA Brownfields funding.
