On June 8th, the Colorado Brownfields Partnership hosted a regional Brownfields Workshop in La Junta, serving communities across Southeast Colorado. Organized in partnership with the City of La Junta, the workshop drew 31 confirmed attendees representing more than a dozen communities and organizations — including La Junta, Rocky Ford, Las Animas, Lamar, Prowers County, Baca County, and Otero County — along with state partners from CDPHE, EPA, and DOLA.
The day focused on four core areas: Financing, Planning, Training, and Cleanup — giving local officials, economic development professionals, and community leaders practical tools to identify and act on Brownfields opportunities in their own communities. Topics included EPA Brownfields grants, Phase I and II environmental assessments, cleanup funding and revolving loans, and historic preservation tax credits.
